Van Zieks is a man known for his brutal demeanor, love of red wine, and exceptionally strong sense of justice. Perhaps too strong; his morality drives him to pursue the worst and most notorious of London's criminal underworld, an endeavor which has resulted in many attempts on his life and is often fruitless due to the corruption of London's legal system, which allows the powerful to escape lawful consequences.

There is no escape from death, however. One by one, the hopefuls who left the courtroom with a Not Guilty verdict inevitably met gruesome ends, giving rise to the legend of the Reaper's Curse: those in the defendant's seat against Barok van Zieks are eternally damned. The surreptitious timing of these incidents has had van Zieks accused of simply taking matters into his own hands, but he has never been successfully connected to the misfortune of his defendants and he unfailingly has a perfect alibi.

HISTORY

A turn-of-the-century British nobleman and prosecutor, with a dubious reputation garnered since the beginning of his career ten years ago upon the start of his "curse" that killed all of his defendants.

Despite the obvious morbid pattern, van Zieks continued prosecuting for five years before his apparent retirement, seemingly bringing an end to the curse. And so The Reaper remained missing until one fateful case, cascading into a series of incidents that will one day overturn all assumptions made about the events ten years ago.
